Dog Becomes Mother to Nine Kittens

The setting is in rural Des Moines county Iowa, thats in the United States of America for those unsure, and the story is about a dog who has become a mother for the second time in six weeks and this second time is to kittens...impossible I hear you cry...well read on and find out how!

Lily, a black labrador, was resuced from a farm after being deserted by her owner and taken to an animal shelter. During her first two weeks at the shelter Lily gave birth to six little puppys and took to motherhood like a duck to water.

After her own puppys grew old enough Lily's puppys all went to good homes but then a problem came up at the animal shelter in which Lily was able to help.

Three litters of kittens were born and none of the mothers survived, this meant that nine kittens were without a parent and the shelters workers were working round the clock to bottle feed these new born felines.

One of the workers who knew of lilys good nature thought to try Lily with two of the kittens to see how she fared...guess what...she took to motherhood of the kittens as if they were her own. Lily keeps a watchful eye on the little kittens and if one was to stray out of the bed she will go and pick the kitten up and bring it back, hell she even licks them clean like they are her own children.

Due to this success Lily the labrador is now the mother of nine kittens, all of which are three to four weeks in age.

The best part of this story is that due to Lilys good work she has now found a home with a loving family, although she wont be able to leave the shelter until her kitten babies are old enough to leave for their new homes in about two to three weeks.
